A homeschool mom transforms into a yoga instructor:
I spent the first half of my adult life as a homeschool mom of 6 children. As my children grew and graduated, I found myself with a “void”. Many of my friends had gone through this – I wasn’t alone. Some had developed hobbies, started new jobs or continued with a career they had before children. I had no desire to go back to my career as a legal secretary. One friend asked me what my interests were. In the midst of schooling and raising 6 children I somehow lost who I was. What were MY interests? There was no time for “self”.
At about the same time my husband and I began taking vacations, just the two of us. On one particular trip I was introduced to beach yoga. Every day for those 10 days I went to beach yoga. I knew I would miss this daily practice. I decided to look for a yoga studio when I got home.
I did find a yoga studio 2 blocks from my home. After several classes I was hooked. I was going to yoga every day – sometimes twice a day. My mantra was . . . “too much yoga, not enough time!” I had discovered my interest. I learned about self-care. I knew that someday I would participate in yoga teacher training and become a certified yoga instructor. At the time I had several children still being homeschooled and a 3- week training in Costa Rica or Hawaii was cost prohibitive. I knew it would happen when the time was right..
In September of 2020 I began my 200-hr yoga teacher training at Soma Yoga Institute. The experience was life changing! After graduating in January of 2021, I started teaching on-line and in person (at that same yoga studio 2 blocks away). Shortly after completing my 200-hr yoga teacher training, I completed a 300-hr training. In time I added specialty certifications in restorative yoga, somatics, trauma informed yoga, yin, yoga nidra, chair yoga, and sound healing.
I am literally living my dream. My passion is restorative, guided meditation and yoga nidra. I added a gong, crystal singing bowls and other percussion instruments to my practice offering sound baths in many of my classes. I also teach a slow gentle flow: focusing on how a pose feels in the body. My main goal is to reach people who would not step into a yoga studio, to break the stereotype of the average yoga student. Yoga is for everyBODY!
